Nochumsohns is a small and focused boutique law firm, which is located in the suburb of Houghton, right next to the M1 highway. The firm is headed by Harry Nochumsohn, a senior attorney, who has been an admitted and practising attorney since 1991. Harry kicked off his legal career in the 1980’s when he served articles at Nathanson, Bowman & Nathan, where he gained experience in debt collections, civil litigation, general practice, with an emphasis on insurance law. Upon admission as an attorney, Harry moved to the firm then known as Maisels Smit & Lowndes where he was initially employed as an associate and was thereafter promoted to partner. At Maisels Smit & Lowndes, Harry was exposed intensively to litigation, banking law, arbitrations, commercial law and also practised family and divorce law.
In February 1998, Harry co-founded the firm Nochumsohns Attorneys, which he heads up as a sole proprietor. His areas of practice and expertise focus mainly on commercial and corporate law and litigation, employment law and areas of general practice. We partner with other attorneys and with advocates to put together a dedicated and specialised legal team which is tailored to meet the particular needs of each matter. Depending on the nature and degree of complexity and specialisation of the matter, Harry will either handle your matter personally, or engage Counsel or specialist attorneys with whom we work on a regular and ongoing basis. A small firm means a total lack of bureaucracy, and it also renders Harry as being immediately available to clients and it makes the firm adaptable. Our central location at 51 West Street, Houghton Estate is easily accessible and is centrally located between the hubs of the Johannesburg Central business district and that of Sandton.
Janette Drogan
The key to success in any business is all about long term staff relationships of trust and good faith, and our practice is no exception to this rule. Janette Drogan has been Harry's PA for 25 years, and continues to devote loyal, competent, reliable service each and every day.
Harry and Janette commenced working together in 1993, just two years after Harry was admitted to practice, and they have remained together ever since. Janette is the backbone of the practice, opening the office every day at 5.30am. The symbiotic relationship between Harry and Janette allows for a smooth and seamless turnaround time of workflow, and is crucial to the slick and quick service which we provide to our client base.
Janette attends not only to the continuous flow of Harry's dictation, and his endless stream of demanding emails, she runs the day to day office admin with confidence and competence, freeing Harry to devote his time to his clients, and his professional commitments.
Our other fantastic staff
We have an awesome driver , who not only serves and files court process, delivers documents and runs errands, but he assists Harry and Janette in many spheres of day to day life in the office, including filing, office admin, driving Harry around, and monitoring the phone lines when Harry and Janette are under the whip. He is a shy kinda guy, and does not want to be identified by name - so we respect that. But, he has worked for us since 2003, and we acknowledge his contribution and loyalty here.
Hetta Oberholzer is and has been our bookkeeper since we opened our doors in 1998. She balances the books, attends to billings, and makes sure that we are compliant with SARS and other government agencies.
Orna and Elsie are 2 other members of the backup team - working part time and mainly from home, they assist Janette and Harry in the running and maintenance of the office.
